Prof. Ron Herring

Ronald Herring has taught at Cornell University since 1991, where he's also served as Director of the Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies and John S. Knight Chair of International Relations, Chair of the Department of Government, among other thankless tasks. Before Cornell, Herring was Professor of Political Science at Northwestern University and held visiting positions at the Universities of Chicago, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin. Herring has been Editor of Comparative Political Studies, and remains on its editorial board, as on the boards of Contemporary South Asia, Critical Asian Studies and the Journal of Development Studies. Recent work has explored connections between economic development and ethnicity -- e.g. Carrots, Sticks and Ethnic Conflict: Rethinking Development Assistance (University of Michigan Press, edited with Milton Esman), on class theory -- e.g. Whatever Happened to Class: Reflections from a Subcontinent [Routledge, UK 2008] and on genetically engineered organisms [editor of a special issue of Journal of Development Studies Vol 43 (1), 2007 and in book form with Routledge (Oxford) as Transgenics and the Poor].
